Glory be to the Father,
and to
the Son,
and to
the Holy Spirit,
as it
was in the beginning,
is now,
and ever shall be,
world
without end.
Today’s feast
reminds us that every aspect of worship centers on the mystery of God in three
persons. At baptism, we are initiated into Christ and the Spirit. The
Creed we recite at Mass every Sunday has its roots in the ancient celebration
of baptism, when a new believer was questioned at the edge of the waters of the
font with three questions: Do you believe in God, the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit? Three questions, three
affirmations, three immersions into the saving waters. Because every
liturgy abounds with references to the Trinity, not only in words but in
blessings by the sign of the cross, this feast was not easily accepted into the
calendar. Pope Alexander in the eleventh century remarked that the liturgy is
so laden with praise of the Trinity that there was no need for a special feast.
Two hundred years later, while in exile in France, Pope John XXII proclaimed
the feast, but it was not until 1911 that Pope St. Pius X gave it status as a
solemnity.
A favorite image
in art for today is the Icon of the Trinity, showing three glorious winged men
seated at a table laden with bread and a cup of wine. It recalls Abraham’s
hospitality to angels and gives expression to the inner life of God, a life lived
in relationship, a life poured out in abundance whenever Christians gather at
the table of the Eucharist to give praise to the Father, in Christ, in the
embrace of the Spirit.

CELEBRATING FOURTEEN YEARS
Next weekend our
parish will celebrate the completion of fourteen years as a parish family. Like
any family, we have had our share of joys and sorrows, troubles and triumphs.
Learning to live with one another, pray and work together isn't always easy but
it is certainly well worth the effort. Sharing our gifts and a common vision
help make for a vibrant parish. Our future success depends upon each and every
member doing their share. Congratulations to all on making Holy Wisdom Parish a
reality! Happy Anniversary!

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
The protection of
young people is the primary concern of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in this area.
Well before the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the
Diocese of Pittsburgh has been committed to responding promptly to allegations
of abuse, cooperating fully with civil authorities, reaching out to victims and
families for healing and reconciliation, educating clergy, being open to the
public, and ensuring the accountability of procedures dealing with abuse. If
you have any questions concerning the policies and practices in the Diocese of
Pittsburgh on the protection of young people, contact the Victim Assistance
Coordinator at 1-888-808-1235.
CONGRATULATIONS

THE INEXPRESSIBLE MYSTERY
The God of the
universe is mysterious. Science has not been able to solve the mystery of how
the universe came into being or explain exactly what continues to give it
creative energy and masterful design. No religion asserts that it has found
words to name fully the ineffable mystery of God, for no matter what name we
use, God always transcends our limited ability to understand. God is a mystery
to be believed, not known. And yet, we Christians believe that our name for God
best expresses that inexpressible mystery: God is the Most Holy Trinity of
three persons united in a communion of love, pouring forth that creative,
saving, sanctifying love into the world. Today’s
scriptures celebrate the mystery of the Trinity and give us clues for living
that mystery in our lives.
