Announcing Our 10 for 10 Raffle

Holy Wisdom and Saint John XXIII Parishes will co-sponsor our 10 for 10 Raffle. For a donation of $10.00 per ticket, you have a chance at winning $10,000.00. Only 10,000 tickets are available. The winning raffle ticket will bear the same 4-digit number as the Big-4 Pennsylvania Lottery on the Monday before Christmas: Monday, December 18, 2017 at 7:00 PM. If winning ticket number is not sold, a winning number will be constructed digit by digit similar to the Pennsylvania Lottery drawing until a winning ticket has been selected. Tickets will soon be available in packets to sign out in the back of church. The success of this venture depends on the generosity of our parishioners who sell and purchase tickets.

Titular Diocese of Allegheny

The Diocese of Allegheny is a former United States Roman Catholic Diocese (1876-1889) and present Latin Episcopal Titular See. The Diocese of Allegheny was created on January 11, 1876 on territory split from the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The new diocese, north of the Allegheny River, covered eight counties with an area of 6,530 square miles, leaving the parent diocese with six counties and an area of 4,784 square miles. Bishop Michael Domenec was appointed as its first and only proper ordinary and Saint Peter Church was designated as the cathedral. On July 1, 1889, the See was suppressed as a residential diocese and its territory was reunited with the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Since it is no longer a diocese for a diocesan bishop, today it is listed by the Catholic Church as a titular see. The current titular bishop of Allegheny is John Walter Flesey (2004-), Auxiliary Bishop of Newark.

On Sunday, August 27, 2017, Bishop Flesey will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the 10:30 AM Mass at Saint Peter Church. Since the current parish boundaries for Holy Wisdom Parish would have been within the Diocese of Allegheny, Saint Peter Parish is inviting the members of Holy Wisdom Parish to join them for this celebration. After Mass, ice cream sundaes will be served in front of Saint Peter Church.
